Does your dog dash out the door when it’s opened? Is he so excited to get outside that he runs you down?  To keep you dog from bolting out the door, make a habit of asking him to sit and stay, or wait, before you open the door.  With a leash on, hold the door open while the dog remains in a sitting position.  When you are ready to let him go, give him the “OK” command and slowly walk him out the door.  Once outside you can remove the leash.  Practice this until your dog is reliable enough to remove the leash and sit until you give the command to go outside.  Always demand a sit or wait before letting your dog out.  Remember, consistency is very important!
